Before you start
Check the requirements: Moodle 4.2 or later, publicly reachable over HTTPS, web services enabled, and site administrator rights.
1. Create your organization
Sign up and create an organization. The organization owns the members, the billing and the Moodle connections; you get a 30-day trial with no card required.
2. Create a Moodle connection
In the panel, open Organization → Moodle and fill in Connect a Moodle site:
- a connection slug — lowercase letters, digits and hyphens, for example main-campus. It identifies this Moodle in the connector URL, so pick something you'll recognize.
- the Moodle URL of the site, over HTTPS.
The panel answers with a license key and a panel secret, shown once: copy both before leaving the page. You can create as many connections as your plan allows — the page tells you how many slots are left. Details are in Connect your site.
3. Install the plugin in that Moodle
Open the connection from the list and use Download the plugin (.zip). Install it in your Moodle from Site administration → Plugins → Install plugins, then open MCP Connector → License and paste the four values: the panel URL, the license key, the panel secret and the connector URL of this connection. Click Validate license. See the Moodle plugin.
Back in the panel, Check now on the connection's page asks Moodle live whether the web service answers and the plugin is installed.
4. Provision a user and get a key
In the plugin's Users section, assign a user to a service based on their role. The plugin mints a Moodle token, the panel turns it into an MCP key (mcpk_…), and the user receives it by email. The value is shown once.
Owners and admins can also mint keys directly in Organization → Moodle → MCP keys, picking which connection the key belongs to. A key only ever works against its own connection.
5. Connect your assistant
Each connection has its own connector URL, of the form:
https://<your-organization>.slxd.app/mcp/lmsmcp/<connection>
Don't type it by hand: the connection's page shows it under Connector URL with a copy button, and the connections list has one too.
- ChatGPT or Claude (claude.ai or Claude Desktop): add it as a remote connector and choose Sign in with your Moodle. No key to paste.
- Cursor, VS Code, Claude Code, scripts: send the MCP key as a Bearer header.
Step-by-step instructions per client are in Client setup.
6. Ask something
Try one of these to confirm everything is wired up:
- "Which courses am I enrolled in?"
- "List the participants of the Introduction to Biology course."
- "Which assignments are due in the next two weeks?"
If you'd rather not configure a client at all, open the panel's AI chat: it uses the same tools with no setup.
If something doesn't work
Most first-time issues are the license validation, the site URL, or a key pointed at the wrong connection. See Troubleshooting.
