The built-in assistant

What it is

People ships an AI assistant built into the app itself — the floating button you see on any screen. Use it for questions like:

  • "Who's in the engineering department?"
  • "How many vacation days does Ada have left this year?"
  • "What was my clocking last Tuesday?"
  • "Who manages the Madrid office?"

How it answers

The assistant reads your data with the same read-only tools an external MCP client uses (see connect an assistant): it never makes up a figure it can't look up, and if your role — or the relational rules that apply to your own record — doesn't allow it to see something, it says so instead of guessing.

There's no need to look up an employee's id beforehand: if you ask about someone by name, the assistant searches first and then asks for the detail with the id it found.

What it doesn't do

The built-in assistant is read-only: it doesn't request absences, doesn't clock you in or out and doesn't edit a CV. For those, use the app directly or an MCP client connected with your account (which does offer them, with your explicit confirmation before running).

Where to go next

  • Connect an assistant — if you'd rather use Claude, ChatGPT or another external client, with the same tools plus the ones that act.
